About
About Levant Mine and Beam Engine
Levant was one of the great mines of the far west, with tunnels reaching far out under the sea. Its restored beam engine, cared for by the National Trust and volunteers, is the only Cornish beam engine still worked by steam on its original mine site.
The mine is also remembered for the man-engine disaster of 1919, when 31 men lost their lives. The clifftop buildings sit within the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, close to the dramatic engine houses at Botallack.
