About
About Pendennis Castle
Pendennis Castle was built in the 1540s as one of a pair of fortresses, with St Mawes Castle across the water, to protect the deep anchorage of Carrick Roads. It was strengthened over the following centuries and during the English Civil War held out for five months under siege before surrendering in 1646.
The castle stayed in military use until after the Second World War. Today you can explore the Tudor keep, the Half Moon Battery, wartime tunnels and lookouts, with great views over Falmouth Bay.
