About
About The Lost Gardens of Heligan
Heligan was the estate of the Tremayne family for centuries, and its gardens were at their height in the Victorian era. After the First World War, when many of the gardeners did not return, the gardens became overgrown and were forgotten for much of the 20th century.
In the early 1990s Tim Smit (later the founder of the Eden Project) and John Willis began a restoration that brought the gardens back to life. Today you can explore productive kitchen gardens, glasshouses, a sub-tropical Jungle valley with a rope bridge, woodland walks and a working estate with rare-breed animals.
